Break your tasks down to bite-sized pieces
If you’re worried about a new task or large task you have to do, simply break into smaller, more
manageable tasks.
Don’t overwhelm your mind with information that is not needed to complete the task. By breaking it down into individual jobs, you can set yourself an action plan to complete the task and reduce stress at the same time.
Things to consider:
- How long the task will take? By dividing this into mini tasks, it is easier to manage your time.
- Try setting a timer for 25 minutes to spend on each item and give yourself a break in between to rest and refresh your mind.
- Do you have all the information to complete the task? Ensure you have everything you need to complete the task given. Read through the instructions carefully before starting and check if there is anything missing.
- Are you overthinking the task? Do not panic. Be honest with yourself or the person you are supporting if you haven’t done it before or used the system. Give yourself extra time to do training or practise before actually getting started.
- It’s wise to make a clear distinction between tasks and projects. A task is something you can do more or less in one sitting. If something takes you several months/weeks/days or even the better part of a day it is best to think of your “task” as a project.
